Singh said: “We already have some clients in the UK office but now Food Fresh UK & Ireland will have an office in London and in Dublin. We are taking these expansion steps to provide better local service to our existing and new clients.”
Food Freshly’s technology has been developed over two decades to extend the shelf-life of fresh-cut produce of almost any type or variety using a dipping solution of one of its 30 different mineral and vitamin formulations. The product is so effective that cut apples can be packaged in resealable sachets and kept in the refrigerator for 21-28 days without browning.
Food Freshly also develops formulations to presanitize produce before it is dipped. The formulae for the powder that is supplied to clients for dissolution in water and use at the processing plant is developed based on analysis of water samples provided by the clients themselves.
Singh said: “This is an excellent opportunity for UK and Ireland based clients to adopt our newly developed 3-PPP Concept © based on our PWAM © Process Water Analysis Method in Germany. Under this concept, we provide an innovative, hygienic concept. One of the biggest benefits for companies using our system is a saving in water and energy costs as water does not have to be discarded after just one wash.”
Food Freshly’s technology is already used by airline catering suppliers and foodservice and retail suppliers to extend the life of prepared produce for European and Middle East airlines, US supermarkets and a Dubai hotel chain among a host of other clients.
Mississauga, Canada — (September 22, 2014) - FOOD freshly North America, Inc. announced today that their freshness retainers for the shelf-life extension of fresh cut fruits and vegetables has been certified by the Organic Material Review Institute (OMRI). OMRI, a non-profit organization, reviews the suitability of substances for use in organic production, processing and handling of food.
Food freshly’s freshness retainers are natural products that maximize the shelf-life of fresh cut produce. The freshness retainers consist of a precise blend of permissible mineral materials, organic acids, and vitamins. These products prevent the fast decay of enzymatic browning, loss of firmness, structure, and taste in the very demanding value added industry.
Benjamin Singh, the President of FOOD freshly North America, Inc., commented, “We are very pleased to receive this certification. With the increasing demand for organic products comes an increasing demand for shelf-life stability. We were asked by our customers to come up with a solution that they can use on their organic products. It took longer than expected, nevertheless our solutions resulted in happy customers. Which in turn pleases us, for not only did we provide solutions to the fresh cut industry, but we were part of the process that supplies consumers with organic products that they deserve.”
“The fresh cut industry has a very difficult task. They have to work extra hard to provide fresh products to retailers, foodservice, and most importantly, the ever increasing demands of the consumer. With the pressure on them, comes the pressure on us, the responsibility to provide them with solutions that will work. They were in need of an organic product, and we were happy to deliver.” Margaret Tomaszewska, Account Executive FOOD freshly North America, Inc.

Istanbul-based company HSG has opened a fully automatic apple processing and packaging line to introduce and feed the demand for fresh & healthy apple snacks, under the brand name ‘APPY’.
HSG is aiming to market the brand in supermarket fresh cut sections, bakery and confectionery shops, retail food outlets and petrol pump stations, as well as private label marketing upon client request. HSG has well establish relationships with all these fresh cut marketing partners.
HSG Group is a joint venture company establishment by CEO Haluk Okutur between Simit Sarayi and a young team of Turkish entrepreneurs. Though this joint venture, HSG will be able to promote ‘APPY’ fresh cut apple bags through Simit’s existing franchise shops in Turkey, Middle-East and Europe.
The fresh cut apple bags are available in 100 gram, 250 gram and 500 gram sizes in flexible packaging. Simit has easy excess to offer ‘APPY’ bags to 500.000 retail customers every day who already buy fresh prepared & packaged food items at Simit shops.
HSG was able to implement the automatic apple processing line project thanks to the guidance and know-how of leading companies from Turkey (HIPOMAK), Italian (PND) and Germany (FOOD freshly).
A particular issue was to remove listeria and other common germs and bacteria from apple surfaces. After several listeria recalls of apple snacks throughout the last year in North America, HSG used FOOD freshly’s 3-PPP concept based on Process Water Analysis Method PWAM© for their local processing plant. The main concern was to prevent future cases of listeria.
The 3- PPP concept is flexible and, in the case of HSG, has been adapted to meet its requirements, specifically for processed products.
Utilising a combination of freshness retainer and FCA sanitizer, the desired shelf life of 7, 10 and 14 days, (and especially for apple snacks 21 days) is not just achieved optically, but also from a microbiological point of view. The process water, and the final packaged products are completely free of E- coli, Staphylococcus, Pseudomonas, Salmonella and Listeria.
Further, HSG is also using FOOD freshly’s newly developed dosing and measuring system, which ensures a constant required concentration of the freshness retainer in the process water. An overdosing or under dosing of the freshness retainer will be fully avoided through this application.
For both products, the special freshness retainer formulation (FRF) and fruit cleaner antiox (FCA) have been throughly tested at Istanbul university. Both products are also registered with the Turkish FDA and customs authority.
A co-operation agreement has been signed between HSG and FOOD freshly to establish a long-term and strong partnership, which will ensure that HSG has instant access to FOOD freshly’s entire patented knowledge PWAM©, as well as a new freshness retainer formulation and other services.
Looking ahead, HSG is also planning to launch deep frozen apples and dry apple chips parallel to a number of fresh cut convenience items, including baby carrots.
Through cooperation, both partners are creating a synergy effect to develop positive and successful future business. “This is win-win situation for both partners,” added Simit CEO Haluk Okutur and CEO Sukhdev Singh in the inauguration event in Istanbul.

After several listeria recalls of apple snacks throughout the last year in North America, the leading European and North American manufacturers contacted FOOD freshly. The main concern is to prevent future cases of listeria completely.
From now on, FOOD freshly offers the new Fruit Cleaner Antiox (FCA) DE-50/500. This FCA eliminates all stubborn germs and fungi immediately. In addition, long-lasting antimicrobial activity is achieved, which in turn leads to perfect raw material (fruit, vegetables and salad varieties). Process water and the final packaged products are completely free of E- coli, Staphylococcus, Pseudomonas, Salmonella and Listeria.
Due to strong customer demand, FOOD freshly has launched 2 new freshness retainers for organic apple varieties that outperform currently available products in terms of taste and functionality. O Plus BIO/Organic EU and O Plus Organic US/CAN are specifically relevant to their target markets and meet all given organic regulations. Cooperation with our customers in the development process of these products was very important. In this way expectations with regard to taste and quality of the final products were optimized.
FOOD freshly has developed a new portable dosing system for automatic dosing, measurement, and control of freshness retainer levels in the process water. The system is easily installed in existing wash systems for the treatment of apples, fruit varieties, lettuce, asparagus and potatoes. Thus, a constant concentration of the freshness retainer is ensured in the process water. An overdosing or under dosing of the freshness retainer is avoided in this way.

In addition, FOOD freshly will be present at Foodex from March 24th – 26th, 2014 in Birmingham, UK. Hall 19, Stand P390.
